What is a Nameserver?

Name servers act much like a telephone book does; they hold a set of numbers known as ‘IP addresses’ (example 123.456.78.9) which play a similar role as your home phone number does as these numbers relate exactly to the location of your web hosting space online.

How do Nameservers  work?

When a user types in your domain name, the browser looks up what the nameserver defined for the domain is. The name server then responds providing the IP Address configured to the domain, upon receiving this information it then "guides" the web browser to the location of your hosting account (home page).
